Hello World!
So recently I was on set of a TV show that was filming in Toronto, and as usual I met alot of cool people, but the unique thing about this set was that the cast and crew was VERY small, so it was alot of fun.
As usual on TV sets there is ALOT of waiting around, so what better to do when your board then to chat! Everyone began chatting about their acting experiences, and their dedication to the art, but one conversation in general with a guy I met on set really bothered me! EXTREMELY!
The conversation began with him asking me questions and vice versa, then randomly he began telling me that it would be harder for "people" like me and him to break into the acting industry due to our skin colour, he began to go on a ignorant rant that darker skin actors like us (he was a few shades darker then me) won't make it in Canada and that black people like "us" only make it in the US. WELL of course this bugged me as he continued to go on and state that if I was lighter skinned I would go farther. WELL GOOD HEAVENS, if that is the key to success then pass me that bleach. NOT
Although many people may find his comments to be true its not, yes if you have lighter skin you may get more call backs and auditions, but dammit if you have no talent, you will not make it far or last in this industry. I may be "dark" but I have talent, and I grantee you that in 3 years from now I will be ALL over your TV screen acting my heart out, and accepting awards all over the world!
The real key to making it in the acting industry is to be FEARLESS, and believe and trust in God!
Yours truly,
Drama Queen
