Live, Laugh, Grow!

Hello World!

Recently in class we were given an article to read entitled The Vision Thing from The Actors Way Column which really inspired me to continue pushing forward with my ambitions in life.

The Vision Thing is a wonderful and inspirational article written by Karen Kondazian, in the article Ms. Kondazian interviews Dr. Robert Maurer pin pointing his views on the film industry and the meaning of REAL success in the film industry.

Dr. Maurer has a holistic view on actors; he believes that actors are artists and visionaries he also believes that actors should learn how to take in every moment as a learning experience, and to remember that happiness and success do not derive from money; one can be successful and happy with their career with out making a cent.

This article was a real eye opener for me, it gave me an opportunity to ask myself questions that I normally wouldn’t ask myself like “Why do I want to be an actor” and “Is career the right path for me”. Through those questions I began to realize that I do want to continue to peruse acting because being on stage and on film is what truly makes me happy.
A quote that really inspired me was when Dr. Maurer stated “There was a 20-year study of painters in Chicago. They looked at people beginning in their graduate training in art, through their training, to what happened to them. They looked at one thing: those who loved school, who just enjoyed painting and the process, and those who were tolerating school and making the best of a difficult situation in the hopes that they would someday paint in a way that would be recognized with fame and fortune. The only people still painting 20 years later were those who loved painting and the process”

So my advice to you is to love what you do, and make the best of life!

Yours Truly,

Being in the Moment

Hello World!

Recently our class was given the nail biting question “What is being in the moment?” in theater terms.

I bet your wondering too.

Well here was my initial thought:

“Being in the moment is being in character at all times on stage”

But it wasn’t until I did some research that I realized the in-depth meaning on being “in the moment”, to me being in the moment is allowing yourself to let loose on stage by allowing the emotions and distinctiveness of a character to show through so that the audience no longer see’s an actor on stage, but they see a character.

A good example of an actor “being in the moment” is Denzel Washington in the movie Malcolm X; Mr. Washington played Malcolm X so well that it was sometimes hard to tell the difference between the two.

WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY!

So I will be taking YOU along with me on this journey of a life time and share with you my up’s and down’s as I learn more and more about the film industry.
